for grades K-3

Eight-year-old Flora has lived in six foster homes since the age of five. One day she meets a honey bee and is excited to discover that Bee understands her no matter what language she speaks.

Created when our 2019/20 Free Elementary School Tour of FLORA MEETS A BEE, serving K-3 students statewide, was cut short due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to the COVID-19 global shutdown in March 2020, the final few months of the Tour were cancelled.

Within a month, illustrator Brenda Hattingh (this was her idea - thank you Brenda!), playwright Morag Shepherd, and graphic designer Aaron Swenson quickly transformed the play into a free, downloadable picture book.

Actors Ariana Farber, Brenda Hattingh, Darby Mest, and Isabella Reeder then filmed themselves with their smartphones reading portions of the book at home in isolation - in costume and character!

That read-aloud video is available below, along with an inclusive, accessible videobook created in the fall of 2022.
